Dreaming of a long run

My beautiful wife Robin is at it again. She's rejuvenated my desire to run by scheduling a race in early June that gets me inspired to not be outdone...too much.  She just ran Dam to Dam 20K in Des Moines this morning and shaved a minute off her previous best. So this week I started running again and am excited to build up to fall of personal records.

Maybe it's the fact that track season coaching duties are done or that the sun is up earlier, but I'm pretty sure the bulk of the motivation has been coming from watching Robin train and leave me to go race.  I'm thankful for the boost.  And after hearing of her fast time over 20K, I'm yearning to get out and go long tomorrow.  I'll probably try to go 10-12 miles with some walking added in since I'm just ramping back up.  Whatever it is, I'll still slower and shorter than Robin's effort today, but she has me motivated to catch up.  What's even more fun about the situation is that now that I'm motivated and on a roll, it will help motivate Robin to get back to training after the race.  I'm hoping that I can get here talked into the 30 Mile trail run at Farmdale this October.  It would be Robin's first ultra marathon and first time over 26.2 for that matter.  Fingers are crossed so that I can get her to join the dark side with me.  After last years first 50K trail run, I have my sights set on my first 50 miler in November.  So it would be nice to have a fellow ultra nerd to train with.  Time will tell, but I have a feeling Robin is starting to crack and will consider an ultra distance at least once.

Anyway, I'm very proud of Robins effort today.  Can't wait to see her tomorrow, but also can wait to get that run in.  It's a good feeling to be dreaming of runs again.
